What's your salty story?
Meredith is originally from the land locked state of Colorado, growing up hiking in the Rockies in moccasins and dresses fostered a connection to the outdoors from the start. Inspired by family trips to beaches in Mexico, Meredith followed her love of the ocean to the University of Hawaii at Moana, after a year there she moved back to Boulder to complete a dual degree in Journalism and Political Science.
Working in public relations in Chicago, then San Diego Meredith carved out her specialty in digital communications and social media. Feeling the need to see the world she took a trip with life long friends to travel to South East Asia, Indonesia and then found herself settling in Perth, Western Australia. Throughout her travels she volunteered in communications with Surfrider Foundation, Pangaea Explorations, 5 Gyres and Plastic Free July.
Inspired to take action to help our oceans after a surf trip to Bali, Meredith undertook a Master's of Advanced Studies at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation. Through her capstone project she developed a mobile app to track marine litter in the deep sea (200m+) a region of the ocean which covers 70% of the earth's surface.
Relocating to Sydney in 2014, Meredith worked as Communications and Marketing Manager at the global sustainable seafood non-profit, the Marine Stewardship Council looking after Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. In 2018, she began working as Industry Partnership Manager at the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation. Where she works to support industry and government to “turn off the tap” of packaging in the environment and move toward a circular economy. She also works closely with Planet Ark on the consumer education campaign for the Australasian Recycling Label and achieving the 2025 National Packaging Targets.
Meredith is a firm believer in experiential learning, an avid traveller, ocean lover, outdoors-women, certified rescue diver and lover of new cultures and exploration.
